In her speech at the YJB annual convention on 11 November, Frances Donewas due to say: "Funding streams continue to be short-term, even thoughtargeted youth crime prevention should be as much a part of mainstreamnational budgets as money spent on schools. Prevention should be 'corebusiness'. Youth crime and antisocial behaviour are at the top of thelist of public concerns. But the success of targeted youth crimeprevention and the safety of our neighbourhoods is being put at risk byuncertainty of funding."
Prevention schemes that work with young people at highest risk ofoffending are financed only until March 2011. These include youthinclusion, mentoring and parenting programmes.
