Workplace: Who's in your meetings? - Susan Knox, breast-feeding initiative co-ordinator, NHS Ayrshire and Arran

1 min read
What exactly do you do? I plan, implement and evaluate our breast-feeding peer support service, training volunteers who have breast-feeding experience to offer mum-to-mum support in their local area during ante- and post-natal periods.

Describe a typical day. It's very varied. Sometimes time is spent in the office at the community centre we're based in planning how to take the service forward. Or I could be offering telephone support to a volunteer recently matched to a new mum, or planning for an induction meeting or training volunteers to understand their role better.

What other agencies, and who else within your organisation do you work with? We work with the voluntary centre in East Ayrshire, which is part of the voluntary centre network in Scotland. We also link up with the Scottish Association of Voluntary Managers and Volunteer Development Scotland, the national centre of excellence for volunteering.
