Workplace: Who's in your meetings? - Stephen Baker, school andunion learning rep, the Association of Teachers and Lecturers

What do you do? As a school rep at Droitwich Spa High School in Worcestershire, my main role is to support members of staff in school and look at their conditions of service. I am also a union learning rep and Worcestershire Local Education Authority is funding me to look at the training needs of teachers.

What was the highlight of the past week? A member of staff at my schoolis approaching retirement and she wants to set up her own business as awedding planner. I was really pleased as I managed to find a trainingcourse she can go on for free.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job? It is great when yousolve a problem for a member of staff.

What is the hardest aspect of your job? When I have a really difficultissue that needs solving.

What is the toughest decision you have had to take during your career?When my wife and I started our family I took the decision not to moveschools so that she could get a promotion in her job. It meant that Ihave never moved schools.
