Workplace: Who's in your meetings? - Roger Olley, project manager, Children North East's Fathers Plus project

1 min read
What exactly do you do? I manage a team of fathers' workers who are seconded to other organisations. I also operate at a strategic level to encourage other groups, such as breast-feeding groups, to include and consider fathers in their plans. And I do training and consultancy.

Describe a typical day. There isn't one. I'm usually in work by 7.30am, which allows me to clear my emails. The rest of the day is made up of supervisory or managerial aspects. Today I'm off to a post-natal depression group to ensure they understand that fathers are a significant factor. Then I'm off to an early excellence centre in North Tyneside where they are developing an approach to baby bonding.

What other agencies, and who else within your organisation, do you work with? The key to my work is to develop links with all agencies that have or potentially have contact with or impact on fathers, including health, social services and education. Children North East has 40 different projects and my role internally is to make sure they're men and father friendly.
