Workplace: Who's in your meetings? - Lynda Corban, looked-after children's education, Blackburn with Darwen council

1 min read
What exactly do you do? As the manager I promote the educational achievement and attainment of looked-after children, which involves encouraging and advising other professionals in their corporate parent responsibilities.

Describe a typical day? Fighting forest fires. Some days I act as an advocate for the young person in order to keep them in school following changes in their circumstances, or I help schools to better understand the needs of the young person. I also advise carers, social workers and designated teachers of their rights and responsibilities, as well as attending planning and review meetings for young people to ensure that they have the best educational opportunities. I deliver training for other professionals on education for looked-after children.

What other agencies, and who else within your own organisation, do you work with? I work with social workers, health professionals, teachers, police, education officers and statutory, private and voluntary agencies involved with looked-after children.
