Workplace: Who's in your meetings? - Jacqueline Bell, healthychildren's project co-ordinator, Southwark

What do you do? Southwark Children and Families Alliance's healthy children's project funds 19 voluntary organisations in Southwark to deliver projects that promote health among children and young people. These groups form the healthy children's project network and target four key areas: prevention of teenage pregnancy; promotion of positive wellbeing; prevention of obesity through good nutrition and physical activity; and smoking prevention and cessation. The project also aims to build capacity in the sector by providing resources, free training and opportunities to share information and network with other groups.

What was the highlight of the past week? Seeing the alliance's interestin maintaining the healthy children's project network as a useful way tocreate dialogue and share information. Also, visiting one of the projectvenues to see how their gardening project has inspired young people toeat more healthily.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job? Meeting a diverse rangeof people and learning from their experiences. Also seeing how much theprojects make a difference.

What is the most challenging aspect of your job? Juggling. The rolerequires keeping up to date with goings on in both the voluntary andstatutory sectors for Southwark in all areas relating to children andyoung people.
