Q: I was pleased to see in the news the Sikh young woman who won her court case against her school after she was excluded for wearing a religious bracelet. Wearing a bracelet in itself is a strange thing to be excluded for. It made me realise that I don't know anything about the Sikh religion and probably nor do the children I work with.

Sarika Watkins-Singh must be congratulated for sticking to her guns and winning a legal battle that would have been gruelling enough for most adults, never mind a 14-year-old. For her to have stayed dedicated to her faith not only shows her strength and commitment to Sikhism, but also a strong sense of self.
