Q: My club is in a rural area and we have a few older members who dress as Goths. They have told me that they are insulted, spat on and abused almost daily in the town by both adults and children. If this isn't shocking enough, they've also told me about riots in Mexico where hundreds of Goths have been beaten up. They fear it will happen here.
This is wholly unacceptable. Several theories have emerged as to the reasons behind the situation in Mexico, including homophobia and government moves to disempower youth and working-class aggression.
It's no wonder that Goths in the UK are concerned too. Could it happen here? Not forgetting the tragic killing of 20-year-old Goth Sophie Lancaster, I somehow doubt it as, fortunately, we are a far more tolerant society.
