Workplace: Ask the expert - What's your problem?

2 mins read
How to support a young person whose father is in prison; resolving disputes with local residents and the fight for equal pay. Tracie Trimmer-Platman has the answers.

Q: One of our member's dads has been sent to prison for a long time. The boy is finding it really hard to cope. He breaks down all the time and tends to get angry with everyone, which has resulted in two serious fights. His father has said he doesn't want any of the family to visit him. I know the boy is suffering but I don't know how to help him.

Poor lad - it must be really tough for him with so many emotions to deal with at once. The sense of shock, loss, betrayal, confusion and anger that he might feel could be extraordinary. In addition, the father's absence might be causing serious financial problems for the family.
