Social work students who take up permanent jobs at the London Borough ofNewham will be eligible for a 10,000 "golden grant". The cash isavailable to 16 UK BA or MA final-year students in return for at leasttwo years' post-qualification service at the council.
Children's charity NCH is offering NVQ students a paid, year-long workplacement in its London children and families services department, aswell as time off to study. A pilot project is near completion, with thescheme due to be rolled out to all NCH's London projects by the end ofthe year.
Kingston council is launching an entry-level programme for would-besocial workers that could lead to full-time employment. It is alsoplanning an ambassador scheme, with younger social care staff going toschools, colleges and job fairs to promote careers in social care.
