The Skills Pledge is a policy recommendation from the independent Leitch Review of skills, which reported to the Treasury last year. The pledge commits employers to help all eligible employees by allowing time off for training or offering financial support if feasible.
"This affects us on two levels - as an employer and also with our employers," said Jane Haywood, chief executive at the council. "We need to work with our employers to see how they can apply this. We need the children and young people's workforce to reflect the community and reach out to the disadvantaged and help them progress."
