Council chair Estelle Morris told a Daycare Trust conference last weekshe had agreed with children's minister Beverley Hughes that somequalifications must go. But she said she was not sure yet who would beresponsible for making those decisions.
The move, which is intended to cut duplication, is part of efforts tointroduce an integrated qualifications framework by 2010 that will allowchildren and young people professionals to move more easily betweendifferent roles. The Government initially proposed a "singlequalifications framework" but changed the name due to widespread concernabout job specialisms being lost.
"At this stage there is no detail on what sort of qualifications will beabolished," said a spokeswoman for the council. "All qualifications willbe reviewed for their 'fit' within the framework and relation to thecommon core."
