Workforce: Experience 'must be accounted for'

Plans to develop the childcare workforce must include measures to recognise the skill and experience of long-standing childcarers with no qualifications, says the National Childminding Association.

The association says it wants to work with the Children's WorkforceDevelopment Council to look at how Accreditation of Prior ExperientialLearning (APEL) can be used as part of a new qualificationsframework.

Chief executive Liz Bayram said: "What we want to see is how we can geta technique in place that allows carers to have their previous educationand learning accredited or APEL recognised," she added.
