Workforce Development: Morris announced as chair of council

Former education secretary Estelle Morris and senior civil servant Jane Haywood will head up the Children's Workforce Development Council (CWDC).

Morris will take on the role of chair later this month after 13 years as a Labour MP. She will combine the role with her appointment as pro vice chancellor of the University of Sunderland.

Haywood will start as chief executive on 1 July. She is currently head of the children and youth division at the Department for Education and Skills.

Paul Ennals, interim chair of the CWDC, said: "Estelle Morris is well known and respected both for her personal integrity and for her commitment to the interests of children and young people."

The CWDC has also appointed a new board comprising 21 senior figures from across the children's sector.
