The Children's Workforce Development Council Induction Standards set outwhat workers need to know within six months of starting. They will applyto staff in children's social care from September and will be tested inother sectors from this autumn.
The standards, originally called the Common Induction Standards, coverseven areas including core values of working with children, communication and health and safety. They were consulted on earlier thisyear and finalised following input from all sectors and children andyoung people.
A major change is that the induction period was lengthened from three tosix months. "People felt it was just too much to do in that period,"said council chief executive Jane Haywood.
