Work Wise: Funding watch - Grassroots Grants Programme

1 min read
What it is: The Grassroots Grants Programme is part of the government's drive to build strong communities. It aims to increase the grant available to community groups that cater to specific local needs. Third sector organisations have the opportunity to apply for funding so that they can run their own local small grants schemes for voluntary and community groups in their areas.

How much is on offer: The fund totals £130m and will be distributed from later this year until March 2011.

What it will fund: Grassroots will fund established third sector organisations that operate in local areas so they can offer funding to community and voluntary organisations. The scheme will allow these third sector organisations to give small grants to community groups that work to meet specific local needs.

Who can apply: Funding from the Grassroots programme is only available to third sector organisations in the 149 top-tier local authorities in England. Organisations encouraged to apply include charitable trusts or foundations, councils for voluntary services (CVS), community empowerment networks, large community or development trusts and third sector consortia or partnerships.
