Work Wise: Funding watch Capacitybuilders National Support Services

1 min read
What it is: National Support Services is a Capacitybuilders funding scheme dedicated to improving the effectiveness of support service providers. The programme is part of the Office of the Third Sector's ChangeUp initiative, which encourages investment in the not-for-profit sector.

How much is on offer: About £16m will be available for three years from April 2008.

What it will fund: Capacitybuilders has earmarked nine priority areas lacking in support in the third sector. These include: campaigning and advocacy; collaboration; equalities and diversity; income generation; leadership and governance; marketing and communications; modernising volunteering; performance management and responding to social change. Programmes that improve resources in these priority areas will be considered for funding.

Who can apply: The fund is open to charities, voluntary or community organisations and social enterprises. Programmes most likely to receive funding will be development schemes that facilitate training or new approaches to delivering a service. Expressions of interest will be evaluated by such factors as an organisation's track record of service provision and a programme's sustainable impact beyond 2011. Individuals are not eligible to apply.

Who it has funded: The African Youth League received £82,092 to help it deliver services and access lottery funding. London Youth got £76,021 to strengthen the structure of London voluntary youth clubs.

How to apply: Applicants can call 0121 237 5100 or download further background information and a prospectus from www.capacitybuilders.org.uk. Expression of interest forms must be filled out online before 5pm on 7 November.
