This is a consultation on the barring policy and processes under the new vetting and barring scheme to be introduced by the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006. The scheme comes into force in autumn 2008.
This consultation invites views on the barring proposals of the scheme. It covers the processes and includes a proposed list of offences that would result in people being automatically barred from work with children and young people.
An Independent Safeguarding Authority will rule on whether individuals who have committed other offences should be barred.
Aspects of the scheme under consultation include: the time period where people can make representations against a barring decision; the minimum period before an individual is able to apply for permission to apply for a review of his or her case; and how an individual's age should be taken into account in relation to the length of the minimum no-review period.
