Whistleblower TV show 'no surprise'

Careers Early Years
A senior figure in the early years sector has said a controversial TV programme alleging failures by Ofsted and nurseries to carry out checks on staff working with children was "no surprise".

The source, who did not want to be named, told CYP Now: "Everybody knows there's problems with quality. You can't rely on very infrequent inspections. If you're going to have good quality it has to be a consistent programme of quality inspections. It's a problem within the sector. However, most children are very well looked after and educated."

Last week's Whistleblower programme on BBC1 saw undercover reporter Imogen Willcocks employed by two nurseries despite having no childcare qualifications or experience. One of the nurseries was the controversial Just Learning nursery in Cambourne, Cambridgeshire, which was shut down at the end of February (CYP Now, 27 February-4 March).
