
Michael Hart, director of children at Ofsted, outlined the changes at a conference last week but some delegates were confused about how inspections would work. National childcare organisations have also renewed criticism of proposed changes to the fee structure (CYP Now, 6-12 February 2008).
Hart said a new self-evaluation form, which would be a crucial part of inspections, would be launched in May or June to give providers time to prepare.
Reports would be compiled under the headings of effectiveness of provision, how inclusive services are, welfare outcomes, learning and development requirements, and leadership and management quality. For services in schools, a separate paragraph in the inspection would be devoted to the EYFS, with a similar one planned for independent schools.
