The childminders received free training and business advice and havebeen supported through registration by the National ChildmindingAssociation.
The association carried out the work under a three-year contract withthe Welsh Development Agency that began in April 2002.
After the contract ended, it was extended for a further three years andwill continue now that the agency's work comes under the Welsh AssemblyGovernment's Department of Enterprise Innovation and Networks.
In Wales all childminders must complete the Level 3 Introduction toChildminding Practice qualification to be registered.
The scheme used funding earmarked for new businesses to offer the courseplus first aid and food hygiene certificates. Childminders were helpedto fill in registration forms and given support and advice onceregistered.
