Members of the National Childminding Association voted to lobbygovernment for child protection to be made a mandatory requirement ofregistration, at the organisation's recent annual general meeting.
Some local authorities already offer child protection training butothers do not, explained the association's director of policy and publicaffairs, Liz Bayram, who takes over as chief executive next month."We're trying to ensure a level playing field," she said.
Bayram added that the resolution reflected the fact childminders feltthey had an important role to play in the wider safeguarding childrenagenda.
The annual general meeting also passed resolutions to campaign fortraining days for all early years workers - a campaign supported by theNational Day Nurseries Association - and for all home-based carers togain Level 3 qualifications within five years of starting out.
