Wales: School term dates to be standardised

All schools in Wales will share the same term dates under a new plan being developed by the Association of Directors of Education in Wales.

The drive to standardise school holidays is intended to minimisedisruption to parents and children. It is understood that six localauthorities in North Wales have already agreed to share the same termdates and it is hoped that more will follow.

A spokesman for the Welsh Local Government Association said: "We havebeen working with the Association of Directors of Education in Walestowards setting universal school holidays across Wales. There arediscussions taking place with local authorities.

"But there are lots of parties that have specific requirements, whichneed to be able to have an input into the dates that are actually set."
