Education News: Wales - 4.3m to be spent on school meals

A 4.3m package of measures to improve school meals in Wales was launched last week.

The three-year funding programme will enable local authorities to trainschool catering staff in healthy eating and practical cookingskills.

And money will be ploughed into improving the facilities and equipmentin school kitchens and dining rooms.

The cash will also pay for a co-ordinator, who will give localauthorities, caterers and schools advice and support on improving foodin schools.

John Davies, the spokesman for lifelong learning at the Welsh LocalGovernment Association and an independent councillor in Pembrokeshire'said: "This funding is welcomed as a real opportunity to support thatwork."
