Wales: Parents play part in support planning

1 min read
Parents and carers are being encouraged to take an active part in the development of support services in Wales.

In its Parenting Action Plan for Wales, the Welsh Assembly has proposed guidelines to help local partnerships set up more Parent Networks and promote models of participation. It wants local framework partnerships to find ways to engage with parents and carers at the planning stage for support services and promote positive parenting.

The Assembly has promised to increase funding for Cymorth, the Children and Youth Support Fund, from 43.9m this year to 75.3m in 2007/08.

Partnerships currently aim to build relationships and engage with children and young people using their services, but the focus is to widen to include parents and carers.

The Assembly wants local framework partnerships to show how they plan to improve services offering support to parents in disadvantaged areas.
