NCB Now: Support needed for young carers in Wales

1 min read
Children in Wales has been given a Welsh Assembly government grant to undertake a piece of work to look at how services can best support the growing group of young people, aged 18 to 25, who have been attending young carers services and are no longer able to get support from these services.

These young people consider themselves to be young carers, and feel they have very few links or connections with projects supporting adult carers. They are looking for a range of support services more tailored to their needs.

Children in Wales is conscious that organisations working to support both young carers and adult carers are aware this group of young people appear to fall into "a gap" in services.

Service providers believe the needs of this group of young people, in this period of transition, could be best addressed by ensuring that adult and children's service providers work closely together to achieve solutions.

The project will seek to identify the specific issues relating to the transition from children and young people's services to adult services, as perceived by the young people themselves and by a range of organisations working with them.
