Wales: Families promised better support

Children and families in Wales have been promised better support following plans for a major shake-up of public services.

Key decisions on the way services including schools, hospitals andsocial services are run will be taken by boards made up of councilchiefs, NHS managers, police, voluntary bodies and Welsh Assemblyofficials.

Although initially voluntary the local service boards will have theirown budgets.

The Welsh Assembly Government plans to pilot local area agreements toguarantee the level of service. They are expected to lead to moreintegrated working on a range of issues.

But Plaid Cymru AM Dai Lloyd dismissed the boards as another layer ofbureaucracy.

The plans are in the Making the Connection - Delivering BeyondBoundaries report.
