YES - JONATHAN EWEN, HEAD OF FOSTERING AND ADOPTION SERVICES, BARNARDO'S
In light of the numbers of children waiting to be placed with adoptive families in the UK, I think BAAF is right to try what may seem like a radical method.
One danger I foresee is if a prospective adopter makes a connection with a child at an adoption party, they may get emotionally attached and lose sight of the difficulties that child has had and therefore the levels of care and support they will need.
But Barnardo's will watch this project with interest and if the local authorities we work with want to bring together our adopters and their children in a similar way, we would be very interested in talking to them about it.
