Exchange days bring together a large number of adoption agencies and approved adopters in one place. The British Association for Adoption and Fostering (BAAF) says these days could cut the time a child spends waiting to be adopted by one fifth.
Each agency has a stand and is able to show pictures and give out information about children waiting for adoption in their area. The children's social workers are also present, which enables prospective adopters to ask questions directly and get immediate answers. Some agencies even show videos of the children waiting.
Mo O'Reilly, director of child placement services at BAAF, said that the days cut through administration and fast tracked adopters through the system by eradicating lengthy phone or email conversations about the children.
