Vouchers not used for holiday care

Early Years
Most working parents are not using childcare vouchers to help pay for holiday childcare, according to a survey of 200 out-of-school clubs and holiday schemes.

The research, commissioned by voucher provider Busy Bees, found 37 clubs - almost one in five - had no parents using vouchers even though 90 per cent of holiday schemes surveyed said they accepted them.

The research also showed 28 per cent of clubs had no more than two parents using vouchers and found parents were unaware vouchers could be used to help fund care for children up to 16.

Geethika Jayatilaka, deputy chief executive of charity 4Children, said: "Unfortunately childcare is still seen by many as being only about full day care for pre-school children." She said campaigners must "get more people understanding that holiday schemes and out-of-school care can be childcare too".
