Volunteering: MPs asked to join young volunteers

Youth Work
MPs are being encouraged to volunteer alongside young people to see first hand the valuable contribution they make in their communities.

Volunteering organisation v has launched v challenge to help raise the profile of youth volunteering among politicians and the public.

MPs are being asked to take part in volunteering opportunities that tap into their interests and benefit their constituencies. Examples include helping to run a children's football coaching session, staging music and arts workshops, or taking part in urban tree planting.

Terry Ryall, chief executive of v, said: "Young people often get a bad press despite the fact that 44 per cent are actively doing positive things for their community. The v challenge is an opportunity for MPs to see this positive action."
