Volunteering: Charity to launch scheme for leaders

The charity received about 500,000 for 12 months, half from a consortium comprising the Garfield Weston Foundation, the Openwork Foundation, and construction firm Laing, and half from charity v, to roll out the vi Leaders programme.

Three hundred young people aged 15 to 25 met earlier this month to discuss initial ideas. The vi leaders meet every three months to discuss how to set up volunteering opportunities for young people in their areas.

Nick van Breemen, director of income at Weston Spirit, said: "Our centres will refer young people with the interest and ability to co-ordinate volunteering opportunities."
