
I would ensure that people know just how much they can help their communities and themselves by giving up some of their free time. With government spending cuts announced and David Cameron asking everyone to become part of the big society, more people should be encouraged to use their skills, enthusiasm and time to help others.
As a student at Lancaster University, I volunteer with a scheme called Involve, run by the students' union. Last year, 1,200 students volunteered on projects that helped 6,000 children and young people. That's a massive number and apart from benefiting those people, volunteering has made me feel good about myself too.
