Voluntary and community organisations see short-term funds as problem

More than half of voluntary and community organisations in the East of England are concerned that short-term funding is undermining the process of joint commissioning, a new report has found.

The report, commissioned by Children Matter East, a regional forum for voluntary and community bodies, also highlights the need for the sector to become involved with planning and developing children's services much earlier in the process.

While the survey of 93 organisations found funding for the sector may have increased, more than half of respondents said short-term, unstable funding that lasted just one year was a problem.

Kevin Garrod, regional development manager at Children Matter East, said the response showed some progress had been made and "relationships were being built between joint commissioners and the sector".
