Voluntary organisations get first tranche of 31m government fund

1 min read
Ninety-nine voluntary organisations are celebrating after landing a slice of a 31m government grant. The organisations were awarded the money from the Children, Young People and Families Grant Programme.

The programme is a Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) funding stream that will give cash to voluntary groups whose work improves outcomes for children, young people and families, with £11m awarded for 2008/09. Organisations are either given three-year strategic grants or a year's project funding.

The National Council of Voluntary Child Care Organisations (NCVCCO) received £2.5m, which chief executive Maggie Jones said would allow it to expand its work in supporting small organisations.

She said the charity was also hoping to expand a support programme it runs in the North East, London and East Midlands to a further three regions.

NCVCCO's programme helps small voluntary childcare organisations with training, widens their focus from local to national work and offers assistance in understanding how commissioners operate.
