Uniformed youth: Boost for cadet scheme in schools

Chancellor Gordon Brown first mentioned the plan 11 months ago (YPN, 15-21 February 2006, p3).

The Treasury's 800,000 will pay for initial set-up costs and first-year running costs for six additional Combined Cadet Forces (CCF) in state schools.

After the year-long pilot, the CCF units will be supported by the Ministry of Defence's 95m budget for all cadet forces.
