Cadet training for state school pupils

1 min read Education
Schools minister Andrew Adonis has announced a new scheme to introduce army cadet training into state schools.

In the initial stages of the scheme, six state schools will form partnerships with nearby independent schools.  Pupils from the state schools will then have the opportunity to join the Combined Cadet Force (CCF) already operating at the independent schools. Two of these partnerships are already up and running.

Students will benefit from a range of cadet force activities including first aid, adventure training and assault courses.

Adonis said the scheme would foster an emerging spirit of cooperation between state and independent schools. He also praised the Combined Cadet Force as a force for good in our schools.

He said the force develops confidence, self-reliance, initiative, resourcefulness, loyalty and a sense of service to others in young people.
