The Transforming Youth Work Development Fund, now the Performance Improvement Fund, was launched in 2002 with an initial budget of 22m and a further 10m in each of the next three financial years. But youth services in some parts of the country were recently told by government offices that it might continue.
Gordon Savage, head of service in Derbyshire, said: "We were planning on the basis of its finish. But then we were led to believe it might not be coming to an end."
The West Midlands Region Principal Youth Officers group shared that impression, and has written to the minister for children and young people, Beverley Hughes, asking her to continue the funding for 12 more months.
