TRAINING: Careers advice is failing the young

1 min read

The research, commissioned by satellite broadcaster BSkyB under its youth training Reach For The Sky initiative, suggests that young people feel the traditional approach to schooling and careers advice did not sufficiently prepare them.

The report says only 40 per cent of 17 to 18-year-olds think their schooling provides them with the skills they need in adult life, while one in five 13 to 18-year-olds expressed dissatisfaction with school as a preparation for adult life.

The launch of the research follows the latest leg of BSkyB's national roadshow RFTS On Tour, which last week ran a four-day event in London's Bethnal Green. Local organisations will be asked to identify relevant young people to invite to the event during the 16-city tour.
