Some articles in the Act are particularly significant for young people.

Article 8 prohibits any kind of discrimination in adjudication between the rights of one individual and another, and provides protection against discrimination against young people on the basis of age.

Article 6, which provides a fundamental right to privacy and family life, will perhaps throw up the greatest number of legal challenges to existing British law with regards to children and families. While the State is entitled to balance this right against concerns such as national security, protection of health, morals and the freedom of others, existing decisions of the courts in Europe have shown there are very high burdens on the states for impingements of this right.
