"We replaced all of the tuck shop's contents for all sessions in the youth clubs with fresh fruit and vegetables, fruit smoothies and alternative healthier snacks," explained youth worker Derek Gardner. "The response was excellent and we intend to build on the success by incorporating the items into all future sessions."
Many services used the week to focus on encouragement for healthier eating and drinking. In Somerset, the Sedgemoor Area Team worked with young people to take a healthy drinking cocktail bar around venues in the district, enabling young people to discuss alcohol issues and have a go at designing and making Fruit Smoothie cocktails. A healthy eating afterschool cafe was also inaugurated at the Rollercoaster youth hub in Bridgwater.
