The National Youth Agency: Young people's involvement indecision-making charted

1 min read

The survey, undertaken by The National Youth Agency and the British Youth Council for the Department for Education and Skills, questioned 849 statutory bodies - including local authorities, national and regional government and organisations working in the health and criminal justice sectors - and 160 voluntary organisations working with children and young people.

About four in five respondents from both sectors reported that their organisation was currently involving children and young people in decision-making. Of these, most said that their participation work had increased over the past four years. However, the survey indicates that there is great variation between different types of organisation. While a substantial amount of participation work appears to be undertaken in Connexions partnerships, children's fund programmes and local government - particularly youth services - it appears less developed in organisations working in the fields of health and criminal justice, and in central and regional government.
