The National Youth Agency: Young people trace impact of Midlandsmining

1 min read

A 15,300 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund/NYA scheme will enable young people to study the changes that have taken place in their town and in the lives of older citizens, creating displays about the decline and closure of the mines.

Old and new photographs of the area will be compared, with recollections recorded and put into web pages, booklets and exhibition materials. The grant will be used to buy e-learning training, software licences, exhibition stands and published materials.

A similar project in neighbouring Derbyshire will look at and produce a film on the history of lead mining in the High Peaks.
