With a core group consisting of 11 young people, all aged between 13 and 19, the internet cafe sprung from a desire to make life on local streets more positive for all.
There were no youth clubs in the area, and all youth projects seemed to have ended. The young people got together and thought about what they really wanted for their community.
The group now meets every Thursday to develop web sites, work with web designers, make logos and also paint their own rooms.
The group hopes that up to 50 young people will use the cafe, situated at Alchemy House in the Beaumont Leys area of Leicester, including young people on a part-time school timetable or at risk of exclusion.
