THE NATIONAL YOUTH AGENCY: Winning project provides haven for womenin Wolverhampton

1 min read

Working with women between the ages of 16 and 25 who are homeless and/or experiencing domestic violence, the Lifeplans project supports in-house training at five hostels throughout Wolverhampton. The three main strands include:

- Basic skills: numeracy/literacy, IT, communication, CV writing, budgeting, goal setting

- Leisure activities: aromatherapy, reflexology, creative writing, art/crafts

- Work placement: in the charity shop and administration offices and as peer group mentors.

Over the past 12 months, 50 women have accessed the project, with half completing courses and/or gaining certification for their work. Five have volunteered for the charity shop and ten are in full-time employment. In addition, previous persistent tenancy-abandoners have maintained a property for at least a year.
