Organisation: Essex County Council/Young Essex Assembly (YEA) and UK Youth Parliament (UKYP)
Issue: Transport costs and difficulties proving age and identity
The situation: The council met YEA members involved with UKYP to discuss their concerns on transport costs in Essex and ideas about introducing an ID card. Meetings took place with local service providers to discuss the proposals and UKYP formed a planning group to advance the card scheme.
What children and young people said
"The idea came from young people complaining about the cost of transport. We had a mind-mapping session for the card name. Design ideas were put out to consultation with young people across Essex. We met designers, bus companies, local libraries, trading standards ..." (YEA/UKYP member).
