The National Youth Agency: Rural Youth Network

Youth may still not be empowered enough to make lasting decisions - Rural Youth Network.

Research from the Rural Youth Network, in partnership with The National Youth Agency, has found that significant progress has been made in developing the local offer of positive activities in rural communities. However, it is unclear whether young people are being sufficiently empowered to make the final decisions on service development and delivery. The Youth Matters green paper recognised that, despite many examples of positive activity across the country, there are substantial numbers of young people that do not participate. In response to the positive activities proposal, 71 per cent of young people said they would do up to four hours of activities in their spare time, but there was a fear that adults would not really listen to, or act on, their wishes.
