The National Youth Agency: Report examines effectiveness of Hear by Right on participation

1 min read
An interim report of the first year of a two-year action research project into young people's participation has been published by The National Youth Agency.

Released in partnership with the Carnegie Young People Initiative, the report examines the process and effectiveness of developing young people's participation using The NYA's Hear by Right standards across two children's trusts in England.

Initial findings indicate that responsibility for the development of participation lies within youth services led by participation workers.

These participation workers are seen as essential in developing and embedding participation but the existence of a high level "champion" is seen as key to success.

Awareness of the Hear by Right mapping and planning process is widespread but involvement is varied as is progress in developing participation further.

Hear by Right as a tool has been embraced at a strategic level but much less so at practitioner level.
