The National Youth Agency: Quality - Consultation events provide atop ten of public libraries offer to young

The National Youth Agency has organised a series of four workshops with young people to record their views and ideas on what they think public libraries should offer in the future.

Working with the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council the responses will inform "A Blueprint for Excellence", the MLA's action plan for public libraries, starting next year.

The top ten points fed back included that libraries could offer comfortable, young people friendly spaces and a warm, safe place to hang out and socialise. They should also offer volunteering opportunities, including youth library councils, work experience and part-time work.

John Dolan, head of library policy at the MLA, said, "We needed to hear what young people expect from library services now and in the future. It was very helpful that you all took part and put in so much effort."
