The National Youth Agency: New agency briefing outlines the statutory position of youth work

1 min read
The National Youth Agency has written to local authority heads of integrated youth support services, directors of children's services and lead members for children and young people with a copy of a briefing note detailing the statutory position of youth work.

With local authorities facing difficult budgetary decisions over coming months, the agency has produced the briefing to make explicit the statutory position of youth work and youth services.

National Youth Agency chief executive Fiona Blacke said: "There is little doubt that a strong youth offer, including robust and highquality youth work, can have a significant positive impact on the outcomes and life chances of young people, particularly the most vulnerable.

"We know that an investment in a youth offer now can bring significant savings in the future by reducing the need for more expensive targeted and specialist services.

"We would urge you to bear this in mind as key decisions are being made locally."
